American City & County Magazine has named the City of Chandler and the Town of Gilbert among this year's 11 American Crown Communities for their collaboration on a water treatment plant.

According to an article in the Phoenix Business Journal, the $88 million Santan Vista Water Treatment Plant, which was built in response to demand with each city entitled to 50 percent of capacity, will save an estimated $22 million compared with the cost of building separate facilities. The project also included the design and construction of a $37 million, 13.5-mile, 48-inch raw water pipeline. Achen-Gardner was the general contractor for the pipeline and partnered with HDR Engineering to complete the Design-Build project.
